NorthCreek Virtual Academy

FAQs

We had hoped that all students would be able to be on campus more days than what's been outlined. Can you help us understand why all students can't be back Monday - Friday as we'd hoped?

We understand the disappointment. We made great strides in opening the campus far beyond what we have in the past, but even with the addition of Preschool rooms, and NorthCreek Church opening rooms across the campus, we lack the necessary space to accommodate all children, all days. The big issue comes down to our commitment to adhere to maintaining 6′ of distance between students (and teachers) in classrooms, which in turn drove us to need to use even more classrooms on campus for instruction. In addition, we’ve considered use of the exterior grounds as well – playgrounds, restrooms, hallways, and discovered inherent limitations in our ability to safely hold instruction on campus for all students without staggering their presence.

Tell me more about Virtual Wednesdays.

We designed the weekly model with a day for students to be learning off campus for several reasons. The afternoon provides a block of time for staff to plan and better prepare themselves for quality instruction delivery. For K-4 students, it provides time for teachers to meet in small groups with students, and/or individually with students as needed. We had difficulty scheduling LIVE JH seminar and elective classes and this day resolved those issues. Finally, the day allows for a deeper sanitation and disinfection of the campus.

If conditions improve in the spring- will Virtual Wednesdays be reconsidered?

We will continually be monitoring conditions and, while committed to the plan articulated, if/when conditions improve, we will absolutely reconsider the “through June” commitment to the schedule.

What is the plan for the Phase III building project?

The building project is alive and well- though obviously delayed. NorthCreek Church continues to work with the City of Walnut Creek to review plans for the project, and we are stepping ahead thoughtfully in light of the challenges and opportunities ahead of us.
